Research your location mindful of how easy it would be to transport your guests. Many venues, especially farm holidays (agriturismi) look wonderfully peaceful and green but often the roads are almost impassable. We have at times encountered lost and disgruntled guests attempting to find locations that would need a strong 4 x 4 and so well hidden that even a navigator doesn’t help! We can suggest possible locations if you are having trouble finding somewhere.
Many couples prefer to try and organize flowers, food and music themselves. This is fine if you have time and patience but do seriously consider hiring the services of a reputable wedding planner. Having said that, there are many operating in Italy and it is not easy to sort the wheat from the chaff… We have years of experience in liaising with all kinds of planners and would be happy to direct you towards a professional who operates in the area of Italy that you have chosen to have your ceremony.
Italians prefer their ceremonies to start at 6 or 7 pm. There is a very good reason for this, as apart from the fact that on the continent eating occurs later in the summer,Italian Brides would never stand with melting make-up under the potent mid-afternoon sun! Imagine how uncomfortable and dangerous it is too for your much valued guests to be suffering in the heat. Global warming has made it very difficult to be sure of the weather. April, May, September and October are often very good choices if you want to avoid sunburn as the heat is less strong and the weather a little more stable (but don’t hold us to it!) Italians realise that storms and lightening are very likely when very hot between the hours of 2pm and 5pm. Having your ceremony at around 6 pm is perfect as your guests can enjoy a refreshing apperitive before dinner at 8 pm.
Ask for references. A good wedding planner will be able to provide you with references which you can check out yourself. This is also why we ask all couples to read the testimonials on our site. They are all genuine and we can ask for couples to verify what they have written if required. Websites such as www.tripadvisor.com are a good source for providing reassurance regarding locations in particular.
